Rowan Ownby
Therapist in Chicago and SuburbsWelcome. I’m glad you’re here.
My name is Rowan Ownby, and I’m a therapist based in Chicago who is passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges with greater self-understanding, confidence, and self-compassion. I received my education through Loyola University Chicago and work with individuals experiencing anxiety, performance anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief and loss, life transitions, and adjustment-related stress.
I also have a special passion for working with performers, creatives, and individuals in high-pressure environments. I’ve been involved in music for over 20 years, majored in choral music education, and performed throughout college. Because of this background, I understand firsthand how emotionally demanding performance spaces can be and how closely identity and self-worth can become tied to achievement, performance, and creative expression.
My Approach
I believe therapy should feel like a warm, supportive space where you can show up as yourself without fear of judgment. Every person’s experiences and needs are different, so my approach is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to you as an individual.
Together, we’ll explore the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be keeping you stuck while building tools to help you move through life with more clarity, confidence, and balance. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, grief, burnout, perfectionism, or major life changes, my goal is to help you feel heard, understood, and supported throughout the process.
Therapy is not about having everything figured out. It’s about creating space to better understand yourself, process what you’re carrying, and move toward a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.
Areas of Expertise
Anxiety
Anxiety can show up as constant worry, panic, perfectionism, overthinking, or feeling emotionally overwhelmed. I help clients develop tools to manage stress, quiet anxious thoughts, and feel more grounded and in control.
Depression
Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, burnout, or lack of motivation can make daily life feel overwhelming. Together, we’ll work toward understanding these emotions, building resilience, and reconnecting with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Relationship Issues
Relationships can be deeply meaningful while also bringing stress, conflict, and emotional pain. I provide support in navigating communication challenges, boundaries, conflict, and building healthier, more fulfilling connections.
Grief and Loss
Grief can feel isolating and deeply painful. I offer a compassionate space to process loss, honor your experiences, and navigate healing at your own pace.
Life Transitions
Major life changes can bring uncertainty, stress, and emotional overwhelm. Whether you’re navigating changes in relationships, career, identity, or life direction, therapy can help you adjust and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Adjustment-Related Stress
Sometimes life changes or stressful experiences become difficult to manage alone. Together, we’ll work on understanding your emotional responses, developing healthy coping strategies, and creating a stronger sense of stability and balance.
Why Choose Me?
Finding the right therapist is an important and personal decision. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely understood. I believe therapy can be both professionally grounded and deeply human. My approach is warm, conversational, and collaborative while still rooted in thoughtful clinical care.
I value building a strong therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, collaboration, and authenticity. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, grief, burnout, perfectionism, or life transitions, we’ll work together to better understand what you’re experiencing and develop tools that support lasting growth and healing.
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel intimidating, but you do not have to navigate things alone. I look forward to supporting you through the process.
I accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Evermore, and United Healthcare
